Jack Anthony is a veteran of the Rock Radio Wars of the late 20th and early 21st Centuries in Charlotte, NC. As host of the Jack at Nite Radio Program on 99.7 WRFX and later 106.5 the End, Jack's coffee-stained button pushing finger entertained several, perhaps dozens of Carolinians for more than 20 years.
In 2012, Jack singlehandedly changed the history of a portion of Sutton Road in Fort Mill when he began programming WFBK 91.5 FM, a station whose transmitter sat atop a telephone pole next to a junkyard. Finding an attractive and lucrative niche with the adult album alternative format, Jack began playing such artists as Spoon, Alabama Shakes and the Lumineers on the air to an adoring audience. Unfortunately, WFBK didn't last long as it was sold to Jesus in 2014. Jesus didn't like Jack's format, so WFBK continued as an online-only station for almost a year.
In mid- 2015, York Technical College announced that they were putting a low power FM on the air and asked Jack if he would be interested in programming it. WYTX-LP was born, and for the next six and a half years, YTX Rocked the Hill in a decisive way. In 2021, there was a leadership change at York Tech. The new leadership noticed to their horror that the previous leaders of the college were paying Jack money to run the station. Realizing this egregious error, they promptly took 98.5 WYTX off the air and stopped paying Jack.
In July 2025, someone told Jack that there was a larger city than Rock Hill across the state line called Charlotte and maybe he should try broadcasting there. Jack rented a U-Haul, threw all the broadcast equipment in the back, and drove across the state line. Radio CLT was born. Broadcasting from swanky new studios at the NC Media Arts Center in Ballantyne, it's a far cry from the nondecript cul de sac in Fort Mill where it all began. Now, Jack gets stuck in traffic on 485 just like you. Progress.
